State Bank of India has announced that its Executive Committee of the Central Board will meet on 12th May 2026 to consider raising long-term funds of up to US$ 2 billion. The raising will be done through public offer and/or private placement of fixed or floating rate bonds denominated in US dollars or other major foreign currencies. The bonds will be issued under Reg-S/144A regulations, which govern international bond offerings to qualified investors. The fund-raising is planned for FY 2026-27 and may be done in single or multiple tranches.
This is a debt-raising exercise and does not involve equity dilution. However, successful issuance will increase SBI's liabilities and debt servicing obligations. The large size signals strong capital market appetite for SBI paper.
