Sun Pharma received DCGI approval to manufacture and market a generic version of semaglutide injection in India for chronic weight management in adults. It will launch under the brand name Noveltreat after the semaglutide patent expires in India. The product, backed by a Phase III trial in India, comes in five dose strengths from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg, given once weekly via a prefilled pen. This follows the December 2025 DCGI approval for semaglutide for type 2 diabetes under brand Sematrinity.
Entry into India's fast-growing obesity drug market; actual sales depend on patent expiry timing and pricing competition.
