Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers (TNPL) reported a sharp fall in FY25 profitability, with profit before tax collapsing to Rs. 5.30 crore from Rs. 324.76 crore in FY24, as cheaper ASEAN paper imports and a 20-25% rise in domestic hardwood pulp prices severely hit margins. Full-year revenue slipped to Rs. 4,588.31 crore from Rs. 4,761.80 crore, and FY25 EBITDA fell to Rs. 527.17 crore from Rs. 838.75 crore. In Q4 FY25, profit after tax stood at Rs. 22.12 crore versus Rs. 32.99 crore a year ago, on revenue of Rs. 1,393.79 crore. The board has recommended a final dividend of Rs. 3 per share (30%) on a face value of Rs. 10 for FY25, subject to shareholder approval at the 45th AGM on September 19, 2025. R. Rengarajan, the current General Manager (Finance & Purchase), was appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2025, while Yogendra Kumar Varshney (ex-COO of Genus Paper & Boards) was appointed Executive Director (Operations) and Chief Risk Officer effective April 21, 2025. Several statutory policies including the Risk Management Policy and Dividend Distribution Policy were also updated.
The steep FY25 profit drop and continued pricing pressure from imports point to weak near-term earnings, though the 30% dividend offers some income cushion for shareholders. The CFO change is an internal promotion and the new Executive Director brings external industry experience, but these management moves are unlikely to move the stock materially on their own.
