Tata Chemicals board has approved a 515 crore investment to build a new greenfield manufacturing facility at Valinokkam, Tamil Nadu for Iodised Vacuum Salt Dried (IVSD) production. The plant will add 210 KTPA capacity and is expected to be completed in 36 months. Funding will come from internal accruals or external financing. The move aims to create a second IVSD manufacturing site in South India and improve supply chain efficiency. The existing IVSD capacity is 1.6 million tonnes per annum at the Mithapur plant in Gujarat.
Positive for long-term growth; signals expansion in salt business, but capex spending and 36-month completion timeline mean benefits are delayed.
