Tata Steel has completed the acquisition of the entire 50% stake held by BlueScope Steel in their joint venture Tata BlueScope Steel Private Limited (TBSPL). The company bought 43.29 crore equity shares of ₹10 face value for a total consideration of ₹1,099.97 crore on December 31, 2025. Post this deal, Tata Steel now holds 99.99% in TBSPL (directly and indirectly through Tata Steel Downstream Products Limited), making TBSPL an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary. The Share Purchase Agreement for this transaction was signed on November 12, 2025.
This is a positive consolidation move for Tata Steel as it gains full control over TBSPL's coated steel and building products business. Shareholders can expect better strategic control, elimination of JV partner conflicts, and full revenue contribution from TBSPL going forward. The deal cost of ~₹1,100 crore is modest relative to Tata Steel's size and unlikely to materially impact the stock.
