NIACL posted weak Q1 FY27 results. Standalone profit after tax fell to about Rs 7.74 crore from Rs 391 crore a year ago. Consolidated results swung to a loss of Rs 244 crore versus a Rs 392 crore profit last year. Return on equity turned negative at minus 4.37 percent standalone. Combined ratio worsened to 121.44 percent and incurred claim ratio rose to 103.38 percent. Auditors gave a qualified conclusion citing pending reconciliation of balances, and emphasized around Rs 7,682 crore in tax-related contingent liabilities. A Rs 59 crore deferred tax expense from the new tax regime shift was also noted.
Sharp profit fall, worsening claims ratio, qualified audit and large tax contingencies are negative signals; near-term sentiment likely weak.
