Union Bank of India's Board of Directors approved a capital plan to raise up to ₹8,000 crore. Of this, up to ₹3,000 crore will be raised through equity instruments including Further Public Offer, Rights Issue, Private Placements (including QIP), Employee Stock Purchase Scheme, or Preferential Allotment. The remaining ₹5,000 crore will be raised through Basel III compliant Additional Tier 1 Bonds and/or Tier 2 Bonds. The equity portion requires approval from the Government of India, regulatory authorities, and shareholders of the Bank. The board meeting lasted from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on May 26, 2026.
The capital raise will strengthen Union Bank's balance sheet and CET1 ratio, supporting future lending growth. However, equity dilution through QIP or Rights Issue could impact existing shareholder value in the short term.
