Zydus Lifesciences has signed an exclusive licensing deal with US-based Agenus Inc. (NASDAQ: AGEN) to acquire commercial rights for its investigational cancer immunotherapy combination, Botensilimab (BOT) and Balstilimab (BAL), in India and Sri Lanka. Under the agreement, Zydus will handle clinical development, regulatory approvals, and commercialization in these territories, and will pay a 5% royalty on net sales once the therapy is approved. BOT/BAL is a next-generation immunotherapy platform currently in advanced clinical trials, having been tested on over 1,200 patients across nine cancer types. This move strengthens Zydus's oncology portfolio, where it already claims to be the largest Indian player in the segment.
This is a positive pipeline-expanding move for Zydus, giving it access to a promising late-stage immuno-oncology asset without upfront acquisition costs, though future earnings will depend on successful trial outcomes and regulatory approvals. Near-term financial impact is limited since royalty payments only begin post-commercialization.
