From 2008 to 2013 there were just 7 in six years. The years with none: 2001, 2002, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2025.

The latest record high was on 2 Jan 2026, at 26,329. The one before was on 26 Sep 2024, at 26,216. The longest wait between two record highs was 1,094 calendar days, from 5 Nov 2010 to 3 Nov 2013.

A record high here means a close above every earlier close in our data, which starts on 3 Jan 2000; that is why the count starts in 2001. Index values only, dividends not included. It counts past days and predicts nothing.

How it is measured

A record high is a day the Nifty 50's official closing value was higher than every earlier close in our data. Our closing values start on 3 Jan 2000. In 2000 a day could only be compared with a few weeks or months of earlier closes, so the chart starts in 2001; the 250 closes of 2000 still count as earlier highs for every later day.

A close equal to the old high does not count. Each column counts record days in one calendar year; the grey number under it is how many trading days that year are in the data, and 2026 runs only to 6 Oct 2026. Index values only: dividends are not included.

This counts past days and predicts nothing.
