XBRL Filings

XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) is the machine-readable format in which listed Indian companies file their financial results with the exchanges and MCA — every figure tagged to a standardised definition instead of sitting in a PDF.

When a company files results, the human-readable PDF is accompanied by an XBRL version in which each number — revenue, PAT, share capital, segment figures — carries a standard tag from a regulatory taxonomy. That tagging is what lets software extract "revenue" from thousands of companies' filings and mean the same thing every time.

For investors, XBRL matters indirectly but powerfully: it is the foundation under every screener, fundamentals database and ratio you use. Tools built on XBRL data inherit its standardisation — and also its quirks, such as unit inconsistencies or late filings, which good data pipelines must detect and clean rather than pass through.
