Central Bank of India has received approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on 3rd March 2026 to acquire additional equity stakes in its two insurance joint ventures. The bank will buy an extra 1.09% in Generali Central Insurance Company Limited (GCICL) and 0.82% in Generali Central Life Insurance Company Limited (GCLICL). After the acquisition, the bank's holding in both GCICL and GCLICL will rise to 26%, up from 24.91% and 25.18% respectively. Both entities are joint ventures with Italy's Generali Group.
This is a small, incremental increase in stake in the bank's existing insurance JVs and is unlikely to materially affect the stock price. It signals the bank's continued commitment to its bancassurance business and partnership with Generali, with slightly higher share of future insurance JV profits flowing to the bank.
