Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on September 20, 2025, at an event inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Bhavnagar. The first MoU is with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) for a long-term strategic collaboration in shipbuilding, which will utilize CSL's 310-meter dry dock to build large vessels like Suezmax tankers, container ships, and Capesize bulk carriers (up to 6 vessels annually). CSL plans a Block Fabrication Facility in Kochi spanning ~80 acres with 1,20,000 MT annual capacity, involving an investment of about ₹3,700 crore and creating ~2,000 direct jobs. The second MoU is with Tamil Nadu's Guidance bureau for a proposed greenfield shipyard investment of about ₹15,000 crore in collaboration with a Korean partner, expected to create 10,000 jobs in its first phase.
These MoUs signal major capacity expansion and a significant strategic partnership with a leading global shipbuilder, which could meaningfully boost CSL's long-term revenue potential and order book. Investors should view this as a positive long-term growth catalyst, though execution timelines and final binding agreements will be key milestones to watch.
