Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MAZDOCK), a Government of India undertaking, has acquired an additional 3,66,49,271 fully paid ordinary shares in Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC), a listed company in Sri Lanka. The acquisition was carried out through a mandatory offer under Sri Lanka's Takeovers and Mergers Code 1995, as part of a Tripartite Agreement involving CDPLC and Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. With this further purchase, MAZDOCK's total shareholding in CDPLC has reached 51%, giving it a controlling (majority) stake. This is a follow-up to an earlier disclosure dated 21 January 2026.
This gives MAZDOCK a controlling stake in a foreign shipyard, expanding its international footprint and providing strategic access to the Sri Lankan maritime and ship repair market. The move is likely to be viewed positively by investors as it signals overseas growth, though execution and integration risks remain.
