Banks & finance has been the biggest in every one of the 24 fortnightly reports of the past year, between ₹29 and ₹32 of every ₹100.

What this is: the value of the shares foreign investors own in listed Indian companies, industry by industry, from the fortnightly report on their holdings (the depository's report). On the poster each block is rounded to whole rupees so the squares add to ₹100. What it is not: what they bought or sold this month. These values also rise and fall with share prices. Not advice on any company or industry.

How it is measured

The value of the shares foreign investors (FPIs) hold in listed Indian companies on 30 Sep 2026, industry by industry, from the depository's fortnightly report, ₹66.17 lakh crore in all. The ₹100 is every industry line of the report added up, including ₹0.4 the report does not sort into an industry (its "Others" line); the report has no line for all industries together. Values are at market prices, so they move with share prices as well as with buying and selling.

It is shares only: foreign investors' bonds and fund units are not in it. Industries are the report's own groups in plain words (Utilities is counted in Power; Sovereign held nothing and is left out). Each square is ₹1: the blocks are rounded to whole rupees so they add to exactly ₹100 (largest-remainder rounding), so a block can differ from its exact share by under ₹1.

Checks: every industry in the previous report (15 Sep 2026) is present; no industry's shares figure is above its figure for all asset types; and the total's change over the fortnight (-1.9%) matches money in and out (-0.3 points) plus the Nifty 50's move (-2.2%) to within 0.57 points. Banks & finance holds 3.8 times the next industry (medicines & hospitals). Even taking away the whole market value of HDFC Bank, the biggest listed company in it (₹10.91 lakh crore on 30 Sep 2026, every share and not only those foreign investors own), banks and finance would still hold more than medicines & hospitals (₹9.10 lakh crore against ₹5.28 lakh crore; ₹16.5 of every ₹100). 24 reports in the last twelve months: banks and finance was the biggest in 24 of them, between ₹29.5 and ₹32.4 of every ₹100.

This is what foreign investors hold, not what they bought or sold, and it says nothing about any company or industry.
