September−6.1% (to 22,620)
Year so far−13.4% (26,130 on 31 Dec 2025 to 22,620 on 30 Sep 2026)

Biggest fall: March, −11.3%. Biggest rise: April, +7.5%. No month ended above where the year began (26,130).

Each month is measured from where the month before ended, so the 9 figures do not simply add up to the year's figure.

What this is: the Nifty 50's official closing values at the end of each month. The Nifty 50 follows 50 of India's biggest companies. Dividends are not counted. What it is not: a forecast. How one month went says nothing about the next, and there is no pattern here to read into any month.

How it is measured

Each step compares the Nifty 50's closing value on the last trading day of a month with its closing value on the last trading day of the month before. January starts from the last close of 2025 (31 Dec 2025). The year-so-far column compares 30 Sep 2026 with 31 Dec 2025; it equals the monthly changes multiplied together (checked in code).

The month in progress is left out until it ends. "Days" under each month are the trading days in it (185 in all). The 7 Oct 2026 close comes from the market's daily closing figures, used because the official table had not loaded it yet and the two sources matched exactly on 6 Oct 2026, the latest day both hold, and on all 375 days both hold since 1 Apr 2025. The Nifty 50 is an index of 50 of India's biggest companies, weighted by company value.

Index values only: dividends are not counted. This reports what each month did. It is not a forecast: how one month went says nothing about the next, and nothing here suggests a pattern by month of the year.
