What the chart shows

The annual report an Indian company publishes has roughly doubled in length in ten years. We counted the pages in 6,683 annual reports we hold and read.

The same 408 companies, ten years apart

  • 2015: typical report 155 pages
  • 2025: typical report 304 pages (+149, up 96%)
  • 382 filed a longer report, 26 a shorter one
  • 193 more than doubled; the biggest jump was 531 pages

A typical report, year by year (pages)

2012107 pages (324 reports)
2013119 pages (311 reports)
2014128 pages (404 reports)
2015156 pages (411 reports)
2016166 pages (425 reports)
2017216 pages (433 reports)
2018217 pages (441 reports)
2019246 pages (450 reports)
2020240 pages (460 reports)
2021239 pages (475 reports)
2022253 pages (499 reports)
2023278 pages (524 reports)
2024285 pages (563 reports)
2025285 pages (597 reports)
2026298 pages (366 reports, part year)

Across every annual report we hold and counted, 9,644 of them, the typical one runs 191 pages and the average 210. The longest single report on file is 974 pages.

What this is and is not: it is the page count of the PDFs we hold, not every report ever filed, and our coverage grows over the years, which is why the picture starts at 2012 and why the headline uses the same 408 companies in both years. Typical means the middle report: half are longer, half shorter. A longer report is not a worse one, and none of this is a view on any company.

How it is measured

Page counts come from the annual report PDFs MarketPing holds and has read: 9,663 of 9,960 annual reports on file have a page count, and 6,683 of them are dated to a financial year we plot. Typical means the middle report of that year: half are longer, half shorter. A financial year is only drawn once we hold 300 reports for it, which is why the picture starts at 2012; our coverage grows over time, from a handful of reports in the early years to 597 for 2025. 2026 is marked a part year: 366 reports are in so far against 597 for 2025, and it is left out of the claim.

The headline compares like with like, not the whole file: the 408 companies that filed an annual report in BOTH 2015 and 2025, so the rise cannot be new companies joining our coverage. 19 documents of under 5 pages were dropped as failed downloads and 2,822 carry no financial year. This counts pages in a document. It is not a measure of how good a report is, and it is not a view on any company.
