What the chart shows

Out of every 100 listed companies, 62 reported a higher profit for Apr to Jun 2026 than for the same months last year. That is 1,261 of 2,018 companies.

Out of every 100 companies

  • 13 more than doubled their profit (271 companies)
  • 43 grew their profit (880 companies)
  • 6 turned a loss into a profit (110 companies)
  • 5 slipped from profit to loss (89 companies)
  • 25 earned less than last year (504 companies)
  • 8 lost money both years (164 companies)

Among the 1,655 companies that made a profit both times, the typical company's profit grew 21.2%.

This counts companies, not market value: a small company weighs the same as a large one. 628 companies with a year-ago profit or loss under Rs 1 crore are left out, because a percentage on a base that small means nothing.

How it is measured

Source: company filings (NSE & BSE). Profit after tax (net profit), quarter ended 30 Jun 2026 vs the same quarter a year before, 2,018 companies. Real counts: more than doubled their profit 271; grew their profit 880; turned a loss into a profit 110; earned exactly the same 0; slipped from profit to loss 89; earned less than last year 504; lost money both years 164.

The per-100 figures are rounded so they add up to exactly 100 (largest-remainder rounding, main groups first, then the smaller ones); 1,261 of 2,018 is 62.5%. The typical company is the middle one (the median) of the 1,655 companies with a profit in both quarters. Left out: 628 companies with a year-ago profit or loss under Rs 1 crore.
